Benefits of our auto-direction translators
Auto-direction voltage translators are available in dual supply configurations. They automatically sense the direction of the signal without the need for a direction control pin. There are a number of trade-offs including drive-strength, data rate, and multi-voltage translation. The wide range of functionalities provide options to fit every design need.
- Works with bi-directional signals
- Devices available that have been optimized for common interfaces
- Works with both open-drain and push-pull interfaces
- Design flexibility with external pull-up resistors
- Open Drain use cases include: I2C, MDIO, SMBUS, GPIO
- Push Pull use cases include: GPIO, SPI, UART, JTAG, I2S, RGMII
- Multi-sourced package and pinouts
Benefits of our direction-controlled translators
Direction-Controlled voltage translators perform non-inverting up or down translation of a uni-directional signal. These have one or more direction control pins that allow the designer to configure which pins are inputs and outputs. This enables simultaneous up and down translation on one device and gives more flexibility. Many devices feature Bus Hold, which retains the last known state of the output when the inputs are floating or high impedance.
- Push Pull buffered output for high drive strength
- One or more direction control pins
- Devices available that have been optimized for common interfaces
- Bus Hold functionality available, indicated by “H” in part number
- Use cases include: SPI, UART, JTAG, GPIO, I2S, RGMII
- Multi-sourced package and pinouts

Benefits of our fixed-direction translators
Fixed-direction translators perform a single direction, noninverting up or down translation of an incoming signal at the input of a device to the output of the device. Single supply translators have one supply voltage, which provides the reference level for the output to track and include translating buffers, as well as translating logic gates. Translating logic gates have built-in logic functionality, and perform up or down voltage translation.
- Single supply translators provide simplicity in system design.
- Dual supply translators provide dynamic operating range for voltage translation.
- Voltage translating logic gates achieve two functions in one chip.
- Use cases include: GPIO, SPI,UART,JTAG,I2S

Enabling next-generation ADAS domain controllers with voltage translation
Level translators improve and simplify domain controller to peripheral input/output (I/O) interface designs in advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). A voltage-level translator can help resolve I/O level mismatches between lower-power processors in ADAS domain controllers and peripheral devices for interfaces such as I2C, Serial Peripheral Interface, Reduced Gigabit Media-Independent Interface, SMBus, I2S, and general-purpose input/output.
Benefits:
- Enables lower-power designs.
- Simplifies processor to peripheral interface designs.
- Enables a wider selection of peripheral devices.

Designing smarter solar-panel inverters with voltage-level translation
One of the primary design challenges for solar inverters is aligning the lower input/output (I/O) voltage levels of the microcontroller with the higher I/O voltage levels of peripheral devices. Voltage-level translators help resolve I/O level mismatches between processors and peripheral devices easily, efficiently and cost-effectively, without sacrificing system performance.
Benefits:
- Enables lower-power designs.
- Simplifies processor to peripheral interface designs.
- Enables a wider selection of peripheral devices.

Enabling industrial PC connectivity with level translation
Both single-board and computer-on-module industrial computers support an array of input/output (I/O) types and interface standards operating at low voltages. Voltage-level translators enable system designers to overcome the design challenges associated with connecting the lower-voltage I/Os of industrial PCs with peripherals operating at different voltage levels.
Benefits:
- Enables lower-power designs.
- Simplifies industrial PC I/O interface designs.
- Enables a wider selection of peripheral devices.
