ExxonMobil Speedpass™
Secure transactions, quick payments, instant activation and consumer access to purchase records were all part of ExxonMobil's ambitious product specification when it envisioned Speedpass.
ExxonMobil's vision has proven to be a huge success. Since it was deployed in 1997 utilizing TI’s contactless commerce RF technology, Speedpass has acquired millions of satisfied users.
Speedpass is available at no charge as a key fob that can be waved in front of a contactless payment reader to purchase gasoline at the pump, merchandise inside the convenience store and even car washes.
A unique identification number is stored inside the fob and is linked to the customer’s Speedpass account, which in turn is linked to the credit or debit card of the user’s choice.
Instant activation is another attractive Speedpass feature. Customers do not have to enroll using paper applications, wait for the device to be mailed to them and then call to activate the device. Instead, Speedpass Instant Activation is facilitated by a handheld wireless computer which enables enrollment and activation at Exxon and Mobil retail locations or other remote sites.
Speedpass keeps consumers informed about purchases even when a receipt is not printed because the user can view transactions of Speedpass' account management website where user can also change their preferences. |
