Adding Value to Retail Supply Chain Management

Opportunities for maximizing retail supply chain efficiency are enormous: every year, billions of cases and pallets containing trillions of items enter the supply chain.

The ability of RFID systems to track items and inform corporate databases of impending store shortages, delays in transport and other logistical information is essential to optimizing inventory management. Field tests by large retail chains using Texas Instruments' (TI) RFID technology have repeatedly proven RFID's value. Today, large-volume rollouts are underway.

Wal-Mart, Target and Best Buy are among the large global retailers with active RFID rollout plans based on Electronic Product Codes (EPC) standards. Rapid, efficient implementation is the goal now. Success depends on choosing the right solution providers, and it all begins with the chip.

TI is a long-time supporter of and contributor to the EPC process. Know-how gained from its participation coupled with TI's technology leadership give it a strong advantage in delivering cost-effective reliable solutions.

RFID systems begin with chips and antennas. TI has proven its performance as a trusted, reliable suppler of chips, antennas and inlays since 1989 and continues to innovate in second-generation products. TI co-invented the smart label form factor in 1997 and has shipped more than 300 million inlays to date.

In addition to pioneering the smart label form factor, TI has consistently been an innovator in RFID technology. It holds technology leadership in each of its three product areas: chips, the inlay form factor and the new strap form factor.

Retailers need a trusted technology partner to keep pace with the industry. TI has proven itself to be exactly that.
