Evaluation module for light-to-frequency converters

The recently introduced TSL245 infrared light-to-frequency converter is the third in a family of light-to-frequency converters which also includes the TSL230 and TSL235. Evaluation of these devices has just been made easier with the introduction of the TSL230 Evaluation Module (EVM).

Incorporating the TSL230, TSL235, and TSL245 light-to-frequency converters, a microcontroller, LCD, and an RS-232 interface the TSL230EVM performs ambient light measurement, reflective measurement, and transmissive sensing functions. The EVM may be operated in stand-alone mode with output displayed on the LCD, or may be connected via the RS-232 interface to an IBM-compatible PC. Also included is Windows™ based software providing a graphical-user-interface (GUI) for the TSL230EVM. The module performs several applications functions including proximity detection and data logging. The battery-operated EVM requires no external supply for operation and is supplied complete with cable, batteries, and software on a 3.5" diskette.

The EVM is available in the US by calling the Hibbert Group at (800) 477-8924, ext. 5800 and is priced at $89.95. It can also be ordered through a local TI sales office or authorized TI distributor.
