Texas Instruments Ships 10 Million DSL Ports to Major Growth Areas

  • 0.75 Million Ports to Japan to Support Annex A Demand
  • 1.5 Million Ports to Asia to Support Build-out in
    China and Korea
  • 1 Million Ports to the Americas to PC, Modem
    and DSLAM OEMs
  • 6.75 Million Ports to Europe With Leading
    Carriers and OEMs

DALLAS (August 21, 2001) - Supporting the growth of digital subscriber line (DSL) in markets where the broadband infrastructure is still building out, Texas Instruments Incorporated (NYSE: TXN) (TI) today announced that the company has shipped 10 million asymmetric DSL (ADSL) ports worldwide. TI's high-performance technology and broad interoperability has led to engagements with leading infrastructure and customer premises manufacturers around the world. The company has shipped ten million ports into countries and regions experiencing DSL market expansion in 2001 including Japan, China, Korea, the Americas and Europe. (See: www.ti.com/sc/adsl)

"In spite of the down economy, deployment of DSL is remaining strong and growing in such regional markets as Europe, China, Japan and Korea," said Eric Mantion, senior analyst of Networking Technology for Cahners In-Stat Group. "While many companies have exited the DSL market or have suffered lower shipments and decreasing quarterly revenue, TI and the company's customers are defying this trend, capitalizing on these expanding DSL markets, and experiencing growth in 2001 making TI a strong player going into 2002."

Enabling the growth of DSL worldwide, TI technology is based on the company's programmable digital signal processors (DSPs) and analog expertise combined with a strong history in DSL providing high-performance and broad interoperability in the global market. TI offers integrated silicon and software solutions for the DSL infrastructure, including DSL access multiplexers (DSLAMs) and digital loop carriers (DLCs), and CPE, including PCI, USB, bridges, routers, integrated access devices (IADs) and residential gateways (RGs).

"Through key customers and engagements with leading service providers, TI is playing in every major DSL market worldwide and will experience growth from the international expansion of DSL -- from the emerging Japanese Annex A market to the more established European market, where we are the leading technology provider," said Bill Eversole, general manager of TI's DSL Business Unit. "DSL continues to be a high-growth area in the communications sector and remains a focus of TI since it complements our strengths in digital signal processing, high-performance analog, software and support."
