Map Consistency
At Texas Instruments, global consistency in EDI maps from multi-site or multi-divisional trading partners is valued higher than regional EDI standards. Consistency in maps and the usage of those maps allows the greatest resource utilization for both trading partners by shortening the mapping and enablement period for new sites or divisions. It also provides long-term benefits in reduced maintenance.

Transmission Verification
Transmission acknowledgments (i.e. CONTRL message or 997 transaction) are the strategic direction for transmission receipt verification at Texas Instruments. The exchange of transmission acknowledgments allows receipt of data to be proactively verified within agreed time parameters. Loss of EDI data can result in the interruption of business. Non-compliance with this strategy will require EDI management approval and an alternative automated solution.

EDIFACT
Effective January 1996, Texas Instruments, Semiconductor has discontinued its participation and support of any further development efforts of ANSI X12 EDI industry guidelines. All related resources and activities will be directed towards an UN/EDIFACT focus. Any involvement to other EDI regional or industry guidelines/standards bodies not related to UN/EDIFACT are also being terminated.

Texas Instruments prefers and strongly encourages trading partners to use the UN/EDIFACT standard. UN/EDIFACT is the Global B2B standard. Since Texas Instruments is a worldwide company, we believe it makes sense to support one standard that is globally supported. Our strategic direction in this area is towards the encouragement, development, and support of an unconditionally acceptable, worldwide EDI standard.

This strategy does not impact our existing base of ANSI X12 or other non-UN/EDIFACT engagements already in production. However, UN/EDIFACT is being strongly advocated henceforth for any new EDI trading partner engagements.

Year 2000
Texas Instrument's strategic position with respect to EDI partners for the Year 2000 is to support the use of either UN/EDIFACT D97A or ANSI X12 4010. Please reference our EDIFACT strategy. Both of these standards are Year 2000 ready. UN/EDIFACT is preferred over ANSI X12. Additionally, Texas Instruments will support customers with date inferencing (date "windowing") where needed. Proprietary EDI feeds will be worked as needed.

EDI Over the Internet
It is Texas Instrument’s strategic direction to use the Internet as a communication vehicle for the exchange of EDI documents. This technology is proven and secure in our production environment and provides faster delivery of documents and cost savings over the use of a value added network (VAN). Currently, EDI over the Internet is supported in the America’s and Europe.
