Overview

The Indoor Light Energy Harvesting Reference Design for Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) Beacon Subsystem provides a solution where by with just the power of the typical indoor lighting in a retail environment (greater than 250 LUX) the Bluetooth Low Energy chip can broadcast BLE beacons.

This subsystem reference design is highly differentiated over existing solutions as it incorporates no batteries, thus eliminating the hassle of battery replacement, battery charging, and saving costs associated with battery maintenance.  This solution also ensures that there are no constraints around installation as long as there is typical indoor lighting available.  There is also no ON/OFF switch; the entire load connection and disconnection is handled by the power management IC therefore ensuring that the solution is self managing.

Features
  • Solar cell (Cymbet) optimized to  work in indoor lighting
  • Ultra-low power with high efficiency DC/DC boost converter/charger that manages solar cell
  • Continuous energy harvesting from low input sources: VIN ≥ 80-mV(Typical)
  • Ultra-low quiescent current: Iq < 330-nA (typ) of the power management IC and 1-uA of BLE chip
  • Cold-start voltage: VIN ≥ 330 mV (Typical)
  • Programmable dynamic Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT)

SPECIAL NOTE: The design documentation shows the CSD75205W1015 which is no longer recommended for new deisgn (NRND). The functional equivalent is the CSD75207W15.
