7.3.5.3 Link Layer

The link layer serves multiple purposes in JESD204C for both 8B or 10B and 64B or 66B encoding schemes, however there are some differences in implementation for each encoding scheme. In general, the link layer responsibilities include scrambling of the data (see Scrambler), establishing the code (8B or 10B) or block (64B or 66B) boundaries and the multiframe (8B or 10B) or multiblock (64B or 66B) boundaries, initializing the link, encoding the data, and monitoring the health of the link. This section is split into an 8B or 10B section (8B or 10B Link Layer) and a 64B or 66B section (64B or 66B Link Layer) to cover the specific implementation for each encoding scheme.
