The ADS111xL has one address pin (ADDR) that configures the I2C address of the device. The ADDR pin can connect to GND, VDD, SDA, or SCL (as shown in Table 8-2), which allows four different addresses to be selected with one pin. At the start of every transaction, that is between the START condition (first falling edge of SDA) and the first falling SCL edge of the address byte, the ADS111xL decodes the address configuration again.
Use the GND, VDD, or SCL connections first for address selection. If the SDA connection is used for address selection, hold the SDA line low for at least 100 ns after the SCL line goes low to make sure the device decodes the address correctly during I2C communication.
