The serial interface is SPI-compatible and is used to read conversion data, configure registers, and control the ADC. The serial interface consists of four control lines: CS, SCLK, DIN, and DOUT/DRDY. Most microcontroller SPI peripherals can operate with the ADC. The interface operates in SPI mode 1, where CPOL = 0 and CPHA = 1. In SPI mode 1, SCLK idles low and data are updated or changed on SCLK rising edges; data are latched or read on SCLK falling edges. Timing details of the SPI protocol are found in Figure 1 and Figure 2.
