Each channel of the LM5171 has an independent gm error amplifier for the inner current loop control. The output of the gm amplifier is connected to the COMP pin, allowing the loop compensation network to be applied between the COMP pins and AGND.
Because the LM5171 employs the averaged current mode control scheme, the inner current loop is basically a first order system. As shown in Figure 6-10, a Type-II compensation network consisting of RCOMP, CCOMP, and CHF is adequate to stabilize the LM5171 inner current loop. The compensation applies to both the buck and boost operating modes. Refer to Section 7.1 for details of the compensation network selection criteria.
