MCF8316C-Q1 provides the option of disabling the speed loop by setting SPEED_LOOP_DIS to 1b. In this mode, the q-axis current reference, Iq_ref is directly set by the product of duty cycle input, DUTY_CMD (from PWM or I2C) and ILIMIT instead of the speed PI loop output as shown in Figure 7-32. Thus, this mode enables torque control through setting Iq_ref directly and hence can be used for torque mode operation.
