Figure 8-1 shows how the SN74LV1T34-Q1 is used to up-translate a 1.8-V signal to 3.3 V to drive an LED in this application. The SN74LV1T34-Q1 does not limit the output current, so an added output resistor is used to provide the appropriate current limiting. The resistor value (R) should be determined by the LED's forward voltage (VD) and the desired forward current through the LED (ID) using this equation: R = (VCC - VD)/ID.
