Design Requirements

A typical application is shown in Figure 8-1. In this example, the system controller is running on a 1.2-V I2C bus, and the target is connected to a 3.3-V bus. Both buses run at 400 kHz. Controller devices can be placed on either bus. For the level translating application, the following should be true: VCCA ≤ (VCCB – 1 V)

  • VCCA = 0.9 V to 5.5 V
  • VCCB = 2.7 to 5.5 V
  • A-side ports must not be connected together
  • Pullup resistors should not be placed on the A-side ports
