When the cathode or output voltage or current of the TL43x-Q1 is not being fed back to the reference or input pin in any form, the device operates in open loop. With proper cathode current (IKA) applied to this device, the TL43x-Q1 has the characteristics shown in Figure 24. With such high gain in this configuration, the device is typically used as a comparator. The integrated reference makes TL43x the prefered choice when trying to monitor a certain level of a single signal for applications such as undervoltage and overvoltage detection.
