7.2.2.2 SMPS Input Capacitors

All SMPS inputs need an input decoupling capacitor to minimize input ripple voltage. It is recommended to use a 10-V, 4.7-µF capacitor for each SMPS. Depending on the input voltage of the SMPS, a 6.3-V or 10-V capacitor can be used. See Table 7-2 for the specific part number of the input capacitor that is recommended.

For optimal performance, the input capacitors should be placed as close to the SMPS input balls as possible. See Section 9.1 for more information about component placement.
