PRODUCTION DATA
Motors experience large currents at low speed, initial startup, and stalled rotor conditions. The large current at motor startup is sometimes called inrush current. The current regulation feature in the DRV8251A can help to limit these large currents. GUID-AC0F9B65-B5F1-4046-A212-7D648EDFE686.html#SLVSCZ0847 and GUID-AC0F9B65-B5F1-4046-A212-7D648EDFE686.html#SLVSCZ05875 show examples of limiting inrush current.
Alternatively, the microcontroller may limit the inrush current by ramping the PWM duty cycle during the startup time.
