The INA310x incorporates an open-drain comparator with an internal reference providing a 0.6-V threshold. The comparator input (CMPIN) can take voltage from 0 V up to 5.5 V or equal to power-supply voltage (if it is lower than 5.5 V). The comparator has a built-in hysteresis of 8 mV (typical). Figure 7-4 shows the hysteresis, which is the difference between the rising-edge threshold and the falling-edge threshold. The hysteresis makes stable switching at the comparator output by providing noise immunity at comparator input.
The open-drain output of the comparator can be tied to voltage range of 0 to 20 V (independent of power supply) through a pullup resistor. When the voltage at the comparator input (CMPIN) exceeds 0.6 V, the output of the comparator goes high. When the voltage at the comparator input falls below falling-threshold (0.6 V – Hysteresis), the output of the comparator is pulled low by an internal open-drain transistor.
