8.2.2.6 Output Capacitor, COUT

Select the output capacitor to minimize the capacitive ripple. The maximum ripple is observed at the maximum input voltage and is given by Equation 12.

where

  • ΔVCOUT is the voltage ripple across the capacitor,
  • ΔIL is the peak-to-peak inductor ripple current.

Substituting VIN = 75 V and targeting ΔVCOUT= 10 mV gives COUT = 7.5 µF. Select a standard 15-µF value for COUT with X5R or X7R dielectric and a voltage rating of 16 V or higher.
