Minimum On-Time

Minimum on-time refers to the minmum amount of time the high side MOSFET can turn on. The LMR60440 regulates the output voltage even if the input-to-output voltage ratio requires an on-time less than the minimum on-time, tON-MIN, for the given frequency setting. The LMR60440 accomplishes this by folding back the switching frequency to support the same input-to-output voltage ratio while maintaining an on-time of tON-MIN. The LMR60440 can support a minimum on-time of 30ns (typical). Equation 7 can be used to estimate the on-time for a given operating condition.

Equation 7. tON=VOUTVIN×fSW

Where:

  • tON = high side MOSFET on-time
  • VOUT = output voltage
  • VIN = input voltage
  • fSW = switching frequency
