8.1 Application Information

The SN74AHC594 is a low-drive CMOS device that can be used for a multitude of bus interface type applications where output ringing is a concern. The low drive and slow edge rates will minimize overshoot and undershoot on the outputs. The inputs accept voltages up to 5.5 V allowing down translation to the VCC level. Figure 8-2 shows how the slower edges can reduce ringing on the output compared to higher drive parts like AC.
