6.4 Device Functional Modes

In light load condition, the TPS55189-Q1 can work in PFM or forced PWM mode to meet different application requirements. PFM mode decreases switching frequency to reduce the switching loss thus it gets high efficiency at light load condition. The FPWM mode keeps the switching frequency unchanged to avoid undesired low switching frequency but the efficiency becomes lower than that of PFM mode.

By default, the TPS55189-Q1 works in PFM mode. To set the device works in forced PWM mode, set the 01 bit of the register 06h to 1.
