8.3.2.1.3 Transition Between PWM and PFM Modes

The forced-PWM mode operation with phase-adding or shedding optimizes efficiency at mid-to-full load. TheTPS6593-Q1 converter operates in PWM mode at load current of approximately 600 mA or higher. The device automatically switches into PFM mode for reduced current consumption when forced-PWM mode is not enabled (BUCKn_FPWM = 0) at lighter load-current levels. A high efficiency is achieved over a wide output-load-current range by combining the PFM and the PWM modes.
