8.3.3.1 Minimum Output Voltage

Like all current-mode control buck converters, there is a minimum configurable output voltage. First, the output voltage can never be lower than the internal voltage reference of 0.6V (typ). Additionally, the minimum on time, ton(min), will limit the minimum output voltage. ton(min) is specified as 250ns (max). See the Electrical Characteristics for more information. The minimum output voltage is approximated by Equation 2.

Equation 2. VOUT(min)≈VIN×tON(min)×fSW

In this equation:

  • VOUT(min) is the minimum possible output voltage
  • VIN is the input voltage for the application
  • ton(min) is the minimum on-time; use the maximum ton(min) value for the worst case calculation
  • fSW is the switching frequency; use the maximum possible fSW for the worst case calculation

Table 8-1 shows calculated minimum output voltages for selected values of fSW and VIN assuming ton(min) = 250ns.
