RTCCLK is the sole clock source for the real-time clock peripheral. Because of the critical time-keeping nature of the RTC, the RTC is provided LFCLK directly before LFCLK is synchronized to the main clock (MCLK). This also enables the RTC to continue counting even when the system clock tree is completely gated in STANDBY mode to reduce power consumption. No special configuration is required for RTCCLK. Because the RTC logic is clocked asynchronously from the system main clock, special rules apply when reading certain RTC registers.
