Duty cycle is to be set at 30% maximum in order measure the Tx Power and other Tx parameters accurately. Otherwise, the device may heat up and degrade the Tx power, which gives a false reading of Tx Power. Measure the Tx power at 30% duty cycle and extrapolate the result to 100% duty cycle. 30% Duty cycle can be used for all the tests related to Transmitter. Note that the 30% Duty Cycle setting is not the requirement in the regulatory spec, but for measuring Tx Power and other Tx parameters accurately.
Duty cycle is defined as Tx-OnTime / (Tx-OnTime + Tx-OffTime). Duty cycle can be set to the desired value by configuring the length of Preamble (No of Bytes), Packet size (No of Bytes) and Delay (Tx-OffTime) based on the data rate.
The configuration of Preamble legth, Packet size and Delay at different data rates for different modes to achieve 30% Duty Cycle is shown in Table 2-3 through Table 2-5.
