When a DMD is idle and not actively projecting data, enable DMD Idle Mode or Standby Mode to assist in maximizing DMD lifetime.
Enable Idle Mode during shorter waiting periods of DMD non-operation. For waiting periods longer than 2 minutes and 3 seconds, enable Standby Mode. In Standby Mode, the DMD is powered but the mirrors are in a parked state. See the table below.
Idle Mode enables a 50/50 duty cycle pattern sequence where the entire mirror array is continuously flipped periodically between the on and off states. When Idle Mode is enabled, the LED Enable outputs are disabled to prevent illumination on the DMD.
To enable Idle Mode, any pattern sequences must first be stopped. To restart the pattern sequence, Idle Mode must be disabled. Idle Mode can be enabled in any operating mode except for Video Mode. Idle Mode can also be enabled to optimize the mirrors that experience prolonged use of being in the on or off states.
Once DMD Idle Mode is enabled, a minimum of three seconds must elapse before disabling it.
If the system is going to be unused for long periods of time, consider using the Standby state [Power Mode =1] instead (see Table 2-39).
Enabling Standby Mode performs a two-minute precondition step prior to safely parking the mirrors.
To enable Standby Mode see Section 2.3.1.1.
