5.1 Power-up the DLP LightCrafter Single DLPC900 EVM

The DLP LightCrafter Single DLPC900 EVM is ready to use, out of the box, after assembling with a supported Single Controller DMD EVM. Steps 1 through 6 show how to power, display an image, and connect the EVM to a PC.

  1. Connect a 12V DC power supply to the power supply connector J17 in Figure 4-3.
  2. LEDs — D8 and D9 light up green to indicate configuration and power is within the expected limits.
  3. LEDs — D6 toggles on and off, indicating the DLPC900 controller is operating.
  4. After 5 seconds, the DLPC900 device starts sending a built-in rotating pattern sequence of images to the DMD for display on the DMD.
  5. Connect a USB cable from a PC to connector J7 on the DLP LightCrafter Single DLPC900 EVM, as seen in Figure 4-3. The first time the cable is connected on a PC, the DLP LightCrafter Single DLPC900 EVM enumerates as a USB composite device with human-interface device (HID) class. No drivers are required since these are natively handled by the Windows operating system.
  6. The DLP LightCrafter Single DLPC900 EVM can be controlled with the GUI software and firmware versions that are available for download from DLPC900REF-SW.
    Note:

    The DLPC900 does not have a dedicated INIT_DONE signal output to indicate that the completion of power-up initialization and is ready to accept commands. The user can configure one of the nine GPIOs available as an INIT_DONE signal output simply by adding the GPIO configuration into a default batch file that is executed at power-up. A 10kΩ pull-down resistor must be connected to the GPIO to be used.

    The following is an example of adding the configuration for GPIO_08 to a batch file, where GPIO_08 is configured as an output and the signal is set high. When this command is added to the top of the batch file, the GPIO output goes high in approximately 800ms from the time POSENSE goes high.
