Pin Failure Mode Analysis (Pin FMA)

This section provides a Failure Mode Analysis (FMA) for the pins of the TPS37-Q1 and TPS38-Q1. The failure modes covered in this document include the typical pin-by-pin failure scenarios:

  • Pin short-circuited to Ground (see Table 4-2)
  • Pin open-circuited (see Table 4-3)
  • Pin short-circuited to an adjacent pin (see Table 4-4)
  • Pin short-circuited to supply (see Table 4-5)

Table 4-2 through Table 4-5 also indicate how these pin conditions can affect the device as per the failure effects classification in Table 4-1.

APotential device damage that affects functionality
BNo device damage, but loss of functionality
CNo device damage, but performance degradation
DNo device damage, no impact to functionality or performance

Figure 4-1 shows the TPS37-Q1 and TPS38-Q1 pin diagram. For a detailed description of the device pins please refer to TPS37-Q1 or TPS38-Q1 in the Pin Configuration and Functions section of the data sheet.

Following are the assumptions of use and the device configuration assumed for the pin FMA in this section:

  • RESET1_UVOD and RESET2_UVOD are pictured as active high, some configurations (RESET1_UVOD and RESET2_UVOD) will be active low. RESET1_UVOD in Figure 4-1 is shown as open-drain, some configurations will be push-pull. Refer to TPS37-Q1 or TPS38-Q1 Pin Configuration and Functions section of the data sheet.
  • At VDD (MIN) ≤ VDD ≤ VDD (MAX), CTR1 / MR = CTR2 / MR = CTS1 = CTS2 = Open
  • Output reset Pullup Resistor (RPULLUP) = 10 kΩ, Output reset pullup voltage (VPULLUP = 5.5 V, output reset load (CLOAD) = 10 pF.
  • Tables valid over the operating free-air temperature range of – 40°C to 125°C, unless otherwise noted.
  • Typical values are at TA = 25°C, VDD = 16 V, and VIT = 6.5 V (VIT refers to VITN or VITP) unless stated otherwise.
