The SYS capacitor is the boost converter output capacitor and should also have enough ripple current rating to absorb output switching ripple current. The output capacitor RMS current ICOUT is given:
The output capacitor voltage ripple is a function of the boost output current (IOUT), and can be calculated as follows:
A low ESR ceramic capacitor such as X7R or X5R is preferred for SNS decoupling capacitor and should be placed close to the SNS and GND pins of the IC. Voltage rating of the capacitor must be higher than normal output voltage level. 16-V rating or higher capacitor is preferred. Minimum 44-μF capacitor is suggested for up to 2.2-A boost converter output current.
