Autonomous Charging Cycle

When battery charging is enabled (CE pin is LOW), the device autonomously completes a charging cycle. The device default charging parameters are listed in Table 9-4.

Table 9-4 Charging Parameter Default Settings
DEFAULT MODE BQ25616/616J
Charging voltage VSET pin, 4.10 V/4.20 V/4.35 V
Charging current ICHG pin
Pre-charge current 5% of ICHG
Termination current 5% of ICHG
Temperature profile JEITA (BQ25616J), Hot/Cold (BQ25616)
Safety timer 10 hours

A new charge cycle starts when the following conditions are valid:

  • Converter starts
  • Battery charging is enabled (CE is low)
  • No thermistor fault on TS.
  • No safety timer fault

The device automatically terminates the charging cycle when the charging current is below the termination threshold, the battery voltage is above the recharge threshold, and the device is not in DPM mode or thermal regulation. When a fully charged battery is discharged below recharge threshold, the device automatically starts a new charging cycle. After the charge is done, a toggle of the CE pin initiates a new charging cycle. Adapter removal and replug will also restart a charging cycle.

The STAT output indicates charging status: charging (LOW), charging complete or charge disable (HIGH), or charging fault (blinking).
