In general, no, the design uses power from the top of the stack. Any current through VCnX should be only a small bias current. This bias current is shown in the data sheet for different modes in the Leakage and Offset Currents section of the electrical characteristics (dINOM). An exception is the increase in current on VC5X when ALERT is high, as shown in the data sheet (dIALERT). Clearing ALERT promptly when set will reduce the effect of this current.
