Input Capacitor Selection

The TPS56837H requires an input decoupling capacitor, and a bulk capacitor is needed depending on the application. TI recommends a ceramic capacitor over 10µF for the decoupling capacitor. TI recommends an additional 0.1µF capacitor (C3) from the VIN to the PGND pin to provide additional high frequency filtering. The capacitor voltage rating must be greater than the maximum input voltage. Calculate the input voltage ripple using Equation 12.

The capacitor must also have a ripple current rating greater than the maximum input current ripple of the application. The input ripple current is calculated by Equation 13:
