The buffer descriptor is a central part of the GMAC_SW Ethernet Subsystem and is how the application software describes Ethernet packets to be sent and empty buffers to be filled with incoming packet data. The TDA2xx and TDA2ex GMAC subsystem contains 8KB internal CPPI RAM for buffer descriptor storage, which can be shared for receive and transmit transfer however the application software intends. GMAC also supports using SRAM and DDR memory for buffer descriptors. In throughput measurement tests, all three memories have been used for storing descriptors.
