The SECTIONS directive in Example4-5 applies the unordered() operator to the first member of the GROUP. The .grp1 output section layout can then be influenced by other placement priority criteria (like the preferred function order list), whereas the .grp2 output section will be laid out as explicitly specified.

The unordered() operator cannot be applied to an entire GROUP or UNION. Attempts to do so will result in a linker command file syntax error and the link will be aborted.
