The Dual-Clock Comparator module can be used to evaluate and monitor the clock input based on a second clock, which can be a more accurate and reliable version. This is used to detect faults in clock sources or clock strucutres, thereby enhacing the system's safety metrics. If the clock frequency deviates from the reference frequency more than a pre-defined threshold, DCC will report an ERROR status flag and send an interrupt to the PIE. An example usage of DCC is to validate the PLL output clock frequency using the XTAL as the reference clock.
