PSI-L provides a mechanism by which events can be transported within one or more optional sub-interfaces on a link. These sub-interfaces are referred to as event transport lanes (ETLs) and are independent of any PSI-L packet or message transfers which may be ongoing on the other interfaces within the PSI-L. A maximum of one event can be transferred on each event transport lane in each clock cycle. The event transport protocol is a simple request-ready type of hwardware handshake.
