System Description

The TIDM-02003 reference design is built using the MSP430FR6043 MCU from TI and other discrete components. The implementation is based on the calculation of differential time of flight (ToF) and uses two transducers for upstream and downstream paths. Transducer excitation and signal captures are implemented using the internal ultrasonic sensing solution (USS) module of the MSP430FR6043 MCU. The signal is then processed by a series of algorithms using the low-energy accelerator (LEA) of the MSP430™ MCU, to calculate the necessary output data in a quick and power-effective manner.

This reference design uses the EVM430-FR6043 evaluation kit, targeted specifically for ultrasonic sensing applications like gas-flow meters. The EVM includes a connector to interface with other BoosterPack™ plug-in modules to add features such as wireless communication. The reference design includes all the hardware files required.

The software is written in a modular and portable manner by using MSP430Ware™ software and MSP430 Ultrasonic Sensing Gas Metering Library from TI.

This reference design also includes the Ultrasonic Design Center, which enables designers to modify and optimize different configuration parameters through an easy-to-use GUI. The USS Design Center lets users implement and customize different transceivers easily without modifying the application code in the example project.

The design files include source code for an application example and corresponding Code Composer Studio™ IDE and IAR Embedded Workbench® IDE projects.
