The OPT evaluation modules (OPTEVMs) are platforms for evaluating the performance of the OPT light sensors. Texas Instruments has multiple families of light sensor parts. Each of these parts is a light sensor integrated circuit (IC) with a digital output and works with the I2C protocol; making the device an excellent choice for many applications. The OPTEVM is a platform for evaluating the performance of the multiple light sensor IC under various conditions. The OPTEVM consists of two PCBs. The first PCB is the OPTMB EVM board that communicates with the computer, provides power, and sends and receives appropriate digital signals. The second PCB is the OPTCB coupon board, which contains the light sensor IC for evaluation and support circuitry.
This user’s guide describes the characteristics, operation, and use of the OPT light sensor evaluation modules (OPTEVM). The user's guide details how to set up and configure the software and hardware, and reviews various aspects of the program operation. Throughout this document, the terms evaluation board, evaluation module, and EVM are synonymous with the OPT light sensor EVM (OPTEVM). This document also includes an electrical schematic, printed circuit board (PCB) layout drawings, and a parts list for the EVM.
