X-ray: Medical/Dental

Digital X-ray imaging is revolutionizing diagnostic radiology. With conventional X-ray systems, the signal degradation from each component consumers more than 60% of the original X-ray signal, causing degradation even if individual components are optimized. As a result, typically less than 40% of the original image information is available to produce an image.

By adding a digital detector to digital X-ray imaging, it is possible to capture more than 80% of the original image information and use a wide range of post-processing tools to further improve images for both direct and indirect digital X-ray systems. Other technology advantages that semiconductor technology is enabling include:

  • Reduced diagnosis time by eliminating photographic processing
  • Reduced costs by eliminating photographic processing chemicals
  • Processing image data that highlights regions of interest and suppresses irrelevant information
  • Combines image data with other pertinent patient RIS/HIS system information
  • Quickly transmits information anywhere over network connections
  • Archives all desired information in a minimal space

TI offers a broad product portfolio for equipment manufacturers of digital X-ray systems, such as:
