Material Release (MR) Forecast
Gray Rule

The "Notify of Planning Release Forecast" Partner Interface Process™ (PIP) supports a process in which a forecast owner sends an order forecast to a forecast recipient. The planning release forecast contains product demand information (planning demand).

It is intended that the forecast (planning demand) information be integrated in the forecast recipient's tactical build plan. There is also an expectation of a logical relationship between the forecast data and a subsequent material release. This PIP, in and of itself, is not an authorization for material release. A formal process for material releases is required prior to product shipping. PIP 4D1, "Notify of Material Release", supports the material release process.

The typical frequency of forecast transmissions is, at a minimum, weekly. The expected material release trigger could occur multiple times during a week or multiple times during a day.

This process supports forecasting for a dual bin (kanban) type program where a material release trigger is sent directly from the shop floor when one bin is emptied. Bin sizes are planned so that product from the supplier should arrive before the second bin is emptied.

Under EDIFACT, DELFOR and DELJIT are complimentary pairs to accomplish scheduling and demand. Under ANSI ASC X12, equivalent functionality is proved with 830 and 862.
