Overview

Our integrated circuits and reference designs help you create low-voltage battery pack designs that enable highly accurate monitoring of and control over the battery stack.

Design requirements

  • Voltage and temperature measurement on cell level with high resolution.
  • Accurate and timely current sense on pack level.
  • Diagnostics and functional safety mechanisms including overcurrent detection and battery disconnect.
  • Digital and power isolation in case of different voltage domains are present.

Battery monitoring ICs measure cell voltages, current and temperature and perform cell balancing to monitor and protect the cells. Passive cell balancing is typically used for standard, small and medium battery packs, whereas active cell balancing is used for large, high performance batteries.
