Overview

The MIMSO® reference design balances the perception and system cost challenges of high-performance imaging radar by combining the Texas Instruments AWR2944 mmWave radar sensor with the Provizio MIMSO Active Antenna to extract 20x higher resolution performance from a single chip.

MIMSO is a software defined active antenna technique which embeds high-speed transmitting switching on the antenna layer to extend the number of virtual array channels of the AWR2944 radar sensor chip. Low-noise amplification is applied on the receive path to reduce the noise floor delivering extended range and denser 3D imaging point clouds.

Embedded SPTDMA® multiplexing enables combined application of time-domain multiplexing across switch arms and doppler-division multiple access multiplexing across native radar transceiver transmitters, enabling high fidelity demultiplexing of virtual receive channels.

Features
  • Angular resolution of sub 0.5 degrees demonstrated utilizing single radar transceiver SoC.
  • Extends a single transceiver SoC to 48 virtual receiver channels.
  • Detect, separate and track objects including pedestrians, cars and truck both static and with velocity to ±189 kilometers per hour (kmph).
