TIDA-01212
Single Bidirectional Infrared LED Communication Port Reference Design
TIDA-01212
Overview
The TIDA-01212 reference design provides a ultra-low power yet simple and low-cost solution for adding a bi-directional IrDA PHY link at 9600 bps to any Smart Metering or sub-metering device. Using a single IR LED, a resistor and internal 1.27 V reference, controlled by an optimized software inside the Sensor Controller engine, both transmitter and receiver for IrDA PHY @ 9600 bps is implemented. This design approach can be used with the TI CC13xx and CC26xx SimpleLink™ Wireless MCUs to reduce cost by replacing legacy optical IrDA PHY modules with two separate LEDs.
Features
- Single bidirectional IrDA PHY @ 9600 bps implementation by CC1350 SimpleLink Wireless MCU
- Only 2 I/Os needed; sensitivity (or link range) can be improved with two additional I/Os for implementing an external voltage reference.
- Sensor Controller Engine senses the Capacitive Touch PCB area and polls the IR LED once per second (adjustable period)
- Connects to TIDA-00848 for adding an IrDA PHY functionality (both transmit and receive) with a single IR LED
- Average current: 1.73 uA @ 3.0 V (LCD OFF); 975 uA @ 3.0 V (80 LCD segments ON) under TI RTOS framework
A fully assembled board has been developed for testing and performance validation only, and is not available for sale.
