Hello, everyone. And welcome to part four of the training series on Win More with TI designs tested for Sub-system level EMC requirements.
In this session, we will cover details of pre-compliance EMC tested Ethernet brick TI design TIDA-00928.
Here is the summary of session content. We have a brief introduction to growing Ethernet applications in grid infrastructure and introduction to EMC compliant small form factor internet brick TI design TIDA-00928, one pager highlighting key features, list of EMC pre-compliance tests that have been successfully completed and setup for testing TIDA-00928, and design resources available for customers on TI.com.
Let us look into some key End Equipments using Ethernet interface in grid infrastructure. Key application of ethernet is for automation. Protection relays conventionally used RS485 for automation. And the current trend is Ethernet interface.
In Digital Substation applications, Ethernet is used for most of the substation automation protocols, including IEC61850 and IEEE1588 precision time protocol. Redundant protocols like HSR and PRP are also based on Ethernet. Some key End Equipments used for grid automation are listed below.
You have the merging unit on the process level, bay controller on the bay level, Ethernet switches and gateways on the station level. Additional applications include media converters, serial to Ethernet converters and Remote IO protocol converters.
TI has the required solutions to win. Visit TI.com for more details on TI solutions.
Here are some of the TI Ethernet solutions for 10/100 copper or fiber. DP83848 is industry gold standard, less than 3 nanoseconds Rx clock jitter. MAC interfaces includes MII/RMII/SNI and is available in GFP-48.
When customers are looking for smaller devices, DP83822 is the solution. DP83822 is industry's lowest power 10/100 Mbps PHY. It supports copper and fiber, specified for wide temperature range. It comes in QFN-32.
Customers are looking for feature enhancement and one of the key requirements is IEEE1588 Precision Time Protocol. DP83630 or DP83640 IEEE1588 Precision Time Protocol Transceiver is the solution.
Here are some of the TI Ethernet solutions for IEEE1588 hardware assisted PTP and 10/100/1000 Transceivers for [INAUDIBLE] Ethernet interface.
DP83630 is a pin to pin upgrade for the DP83620 without PTP. It supports IEEE1588, both V1 and V2 in hardware, and allows sub 10 nanoseconds synchronization to Master Reference.
DP83867 is robust, high immunity, 10/100/1000 Ethernet Physical Layer Transceiver. MAC interfaces includes GMII, RGMII, SGMII, and MII. It's available in QFN-48 or QFP-64. There are more great parts in the pipeline.
Here are links to some of the Ethernet TI designs. They cover 10/100 fiber and copper. An important point to note is that all of the Ti designs are tested for pre-compliance EMC.
Let us look into the details of TIDA-00929 TI design.
The Ethernet PHY is interfaced to 32-bit Arm Cortex M4F MCu with an integrated MAC for performance evaluation. 10/100 Mbps copper interface and 100Base-FX fiber interface have been tested. It has small-sized PCB and has passed many of the ECM tests.
Also look at the applications within the grid space. It has many, including protection relay, protocol converters and remote terminal units.
This is the summary of the EMC test results successfully tested on TIDA-00928. The most important test is the radiated emission test. And the design has passed class B.
We have tested for many of the important EMC standards across multiple labs. Many of the tests meet performance criteria [INAUDIBLE], which is most stringent. These results are an indication of the device capability to meet stringent EMC requirements.
EMC testing involves making setup and planning of testing. Look at the setup for TIDA-00928, brick tested for IEC61000-4-3. And you can monitor the devices under test from outside.
TIDA-00928 brick tested for IEC61000-4-6. The Ethernet brick has been tested for 3 volt, 10 volt levels, both on the power lines and the communication lines. TIDA-00928 brick tested for radiated interference with three meter distance.
TIDA-00928 is on TI.com. And we have been having excellent traction with customers. Talk to your customers on the TI design. Customers can download the design guide with test results, schematics, CAD files, Gerbers, and many more.
In the next section, we will focus on Binary Input Module TIDA-00847.
