Here is an overview of the ADS127L18 family of precision ADCs. The ADS127L18 is an eight-channel, 24-bit delta sigma ADC with speeds up to 1,265 kilosamples per second in low-latency filter mode. This ADC integrates configurable digital filter for wide bandwidth and low-latency operations for excellent AC performance with DC precision, all in a small package size. Please note that the Effective Number of Bits, or ENOB, will be reduced as a result of using this ADC at its maximum speed.
For this presentation, we will focus on the ADS127L18's performance when operating at 512 kilosamples per second in the wide-band filter mode. The AD127L18 family comes in 16-bit or 24-bits resolution in a variety of channel counts, from one channel up to eight channel, and in multiple speed options. This family also offers excellent Integral Nonlinearity, or INL for increased accuracy.
The ADS127L18 provides the same look and feel as the ADS127L11, with eight times more channels, 24% higher speed, and 38% solution-size reduction for multichannel configuration. This device is great for end products that require monitoring a large number of channels while maintaining accuracy and precision.
Here is an example of a schematic of how to daisychain two ADS127L18s to measure 16 channels. This schematic can easily be modified to accommodate more channels, based on your system needs. Note that there is a trade-off between the amount of data output pins used and the speed available. This octal channel ADC can be used in a variety of applications that require monitoring a large number of channels while maintaining accuracy and precision. For example, it can be used in automated test equipment, energy infrastructure, medical, and aerospace and defense.
