Hello, and welcome to the TI Logic Minute. In this video, we will explain the components of a logic part number. The first logic parts use 74 to designate a commercial grade device and 54 for military grade devices. This is still a standard used today.
SN is a prefix that we add to denote that the device was developed and manufactured by Texas Instruments. Following SN74 is the device's technology family. Some families have a version that is TTL compatible, denoted by adding a T to the device family.
The next two or three digits indicate the function of the device. Changing the function number will indicate a different function from the same family. After the function, there will be a TI package designator and a designator for tape and reel.
Many devices are offered with different numbers of channels and bit widths, indicated between the family and the function. If a device has a special feature, a character indicating it will be included after the device family. If a device has been revised, a revision number will be included following the device function.
