Texas Instruments simplifies connected audio product development with the DA8x Aureus™ nSDK, enabling up to nine months of development time savings

The nSDK reduces software development effort required for networked audio products while allowing flexibility of design and customization

Bangalore (January 06, 2011) –– Helping audio consumer electronics (CE) manufacturers stay ahead of the latest trends in connected entertainment, Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) is launching the networked audio software development kit (nSDK), allowing developers to quickly and easily integrate Internet radio and online streaming services into end products based on the DA8x Aureus™ platform of audio processors. The flexible nSDK enables developers to easily and quickly achieve high-performing, cost-effective solutions for connected consumer products, offering up to nine months of development time savings. The nSDK eases and accelerates ARM-based development for applications such as Internet radios, networked audio video receivers (nAVRs) and other connected audio products. For more information on TI’s hardware and software audio solutions, visit www.ti.com/aureusaudio.

The DA8x nSDK includes a comprehensive package of pre-integrated online music services, local network streaming audio features as well as implementations of network interoperability standards. The nSDK also offers tested drivers for key peripherals and operating system support to allow audio CE manufacturers to more easily design networked audio products with reduced time to market. The nSDK provides software building blocks as a starting point for product development while still allowing the developer to add software and services as well as customize the end product’s user interface. The software included is production ready, yet it offers developers the flexibility to quickly and easily adapt designs for targeted networked audio applications.

nSDK features and benefits

Feature

Benefit

Abstracted API implementations of major online radio services

Enables the developer to quickly and easily add online radio services to their product without having to implement each service’s unique API

USB audio support

Offers a robust USB audio solution for streaming music from mass storage devices and MP3 players

Drivers for audio player and screen

Includes clean, tested source code that enables consumers to play streamed and local sources of audio and easily control playback with a user interface and browser

Community Linux® support package

Offers developers the Linux kernel, drivers and associated system and application software in a single package for easy installation

Implementations of network interoperability standards, including Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA), Universal Plug and Play (UPnP)

Enables seamless connectivity to wireless network to identify, manage and share audio within a home environment

Line driver complements DA8x Aureus performance audio processor-based solution

Designers using the DA8x Aureus performance audio processor can complement their solution with a line driver like the DRV603. This pop-free variable input gain line driver with differential inputs is capable of driving 3 Vrms into a 2.5-kiloohm load with 5-V supply voltage for single-supply electronics where size and cost are critical design requirements.
