7.3.15 Output Short Circuit Protection

In addition to the average inductor current limit, the TPS55292-Q1 implements the output short-circuit protection by entering hiccup mode. After soft start-up time of 3.6 ms, the TPS552892-Q1 monitors the average inductor current and output voltage. Whenever the output short circuit happens, causing the average inductor current hitting the set limit and the output voltage below 0.8 V for 2 ms, the TPS552892-Q1 shuts down the switching for 76 ms (typical) and then repeats the soft start for 3.6 ms. The hiccup mode helps reduce the total power dissipation on the TPS552892-Q1 in the output short-circuit or overcurrent condition.
