Motor Current

Motors experience large currents at low speed, initial startup, and stalled rotor conditions. The large current at motor startup is sometimes called inrush current. The current regulation feature in the DRV8231A can help to limit these large currents. Figure 9-4 and Figure 9-5 show examples of limiting inrush current.

Alternatively, the microcontroller may limit the inrush current by ramping the PWM duty cycle during the startup time.
